Final Reflection

Final Reflection

This course has been a huge learning curve for me especially finding and using appropriate apps for the classroom. It has shown me a variety of ways to use the iPad in a more efficient and user friendly fashion.

The first two modules showed me important skills such as closing apps, selecting text and organising your apps into folders. The built in apps in the iPad are also handy to use and it has been fun exploring the iPads functions.

The Ilearn framework has given me inspiration to incorporate the iPad in a variety of lessons and has opened my eyes to the potential that the iPad has for improving your activities. The multimodal apps I found to be so valuable because you can get the students to complete a task using one app that can cover talking&listening/ writing/reading areas all in one activity.

The Cloud and Dropbox information was interesting and is something I need to explore further. I found that using these to store data is exciting and I am sure it will keep improving and changing through time.

Overall this course has made me think about how to incorporate technology into lessons in a more informed and purposeful way. It has made me think about using the iPad for assessment and teaching concepts in all different topics. I can't wait to use the iPads in the classroom with more excitement and confidence!!

Module 6: Transforming Learning

Module 6

The iPad is an amazing device that meets the needs of people of different abilities, experiences and interests. The module discusses how the device is a natural manipulation for young children and I totally agree my daughter who is 4 years old is able to play games and use the camera indepently. My daughter solves a variety of problems that might arise on the iPad such as turning the volume up and down, changing apps and getting on the Internet (this is a little scary).

The iPad can cover all the KLA's in a variety of ways and can accommodate for different abilities. The English area in the module has given excellent app suggestions with the kids write text type and the Garfield fact or opinion they both would assist text type lessons immensely. I will be doing an ESL block and assisting students with their writing so the text type app will be a fun and different way to help plan and improve their writing.

The camera is something that teachers would love to use for assessment and capturing important moments in the classroom. The students can also use it to keep a record of work they are proud of and want to show their parents especially when it's not on paper.

The blogging apps are a fantastic and different way for the students to reflect on what they have learnt and they can also see other students ideas. This opens up opportunities for discussion and feedback while also assessing their skills.

The other KLA's can use the iPad to research, play games especially in mathematics, label diagrams, create music and much more. I have seen other teachers use the QR readers and the students have really been motivated to gain interesting information. The Augmented reality technology sounds amazing this will definitely capture the attention of children.

There is so much you can use as a teacher however it can be hard keeping up with the technology that is always evolving!!!

Module 5: Multimodal Literacies

Module 5

This module has demonstrated so many ideas for covering the modes of Literacy in talking, listening and writing using technology/mobile devices. The ebooks are fantastic for teachers to use in their reading groups and it is a different way to expose students to reading in a different format. They can underline words they don't understand and use the different functions on the iPad to improve their understanding of what they are reading. The audio books assist in students developing their listening skills and extending their comprehension. Then having the voice recording is such a great assessment tool for teachers and students as they can hear how they are reading. This can lead to positive discussion and feedback between student and teacher. The ebooks that have activities and games really are valuable as they are encouraging comprehension which is vital for students reading skills. Meegenius app provides students with books that they can read and they can follow the story as it highlights the words

The digital story creator apps give students a fun and interactive method of writing. Last term in my class we were looking at the narrative text type and the students published their stories on the computer. This term I would love to introduce the students to these apps and get them to extend their story telling skills digitally. The puppet pals and sock puppet apps would be excellent for story creating activities and discussing character profiles. The flipboard app is a great resource for providing students with a variety of texts. This app gives them access to magazines which can be used for research or letting them read informative texts.

There are so many ways to incorporate the multimodal Literacy practices in the classroom and it is now a vital part of programming for teachers.

Module 4: Working with Files

Module 4

Learning about how to organise files and store your information is valuable especially for teachers who have numerous resources that they need to save. I found the information of syncing your computer information to your iPad interesting I didn't know you could actually do that through iTunes. There are so many ways you can store your files today and gone are the days where you would save everything on the computer and if it broke you would lose everything thankfully!!
Cloud is an amazing option for us to use and it can store all our valuable files and photos which is great especially for myself as I take a lot of photos on the iPad.

The Dropbox cloud share is fantastic it is easy to use and it works for both pc's and iPads I will be definately using this to store my files and photos. We use google drive at our school to store information and it has worked successfully. We share documents easily and it is a good way to communicate with each other. We have also shown the students how to share documents they create in google drive which is fantastic for teachers as it is easy to access and refer back to. The PDFs are great for text type writing and being able to annotate the texts to point out the writing features.

Module 1

Module 1: Exploring The IPad
This module has shown many tricks on how to use the IPad more efficiently and effectively. The first part of the module explores iBooks which I haven't used before and they will be a great resource in the classroom especially for reading groups. Using the dictionary and note function is also a great resource for students to look up a word they don't know and it encourages them to use their own dictionary skills.

The module also demonstrated how to close apps that are open and I didn't realise having these opened uses battery. Looking at and downloading different apps is a handy skill for teachers which I haven't had much experience with and I am getting more familiar with the process. I also found the IPad's built in apps handy to use such as notes to create 'to do' lists that are always a part of teachers lives. Organising the apps into folders is a great way to place them in KLA folders for the students to use easily and you know the activities they are using on the IPad are appropriate. The IPad camera/video information gave me more ideas on how I can use the camera in a variety of ways.

This module was a great introduction in using the IPad's basic functions and getting you familiar with using a variety of apps.
